Carroll County CASA, Inc. was founded in 1998 when a local couple, Russ and Mary Sarner saw a need for child advocacy. They have served on Citizen Panel Review for many years and found that the panels did not always adequate information to make recommendations to the Juvenile court. They found out about CASA through Haralson County and went through the training to become Court Appointed Special Advocates. Then they met with the Juvenile Court Judge, Daniel P. Camp to assess his interest in having a program. Judge Camp was supportive and the Sarner's began working with community members to raise awareness and funds to begin a CASA program.
Carroll County CASA, Inc. became a non-profit 501(c) 3 in 1998 under the guidance of an active board of directors and the support from the people of Carroll County. Patricia Brewer was hired as the first Executive Director of Carroll County CASA, Inc. Volunteers were trained and began taking cases in 1999. Amanda B. Camp became the Program Coordinator in September 2000 and has been promoted over the years to Program Director and then Executive Director. The program has grown from one full time staff person to three full time staff starting in 2008.
Our program was fortunate to occupy space provided by Carroll County in the county courthouse for the first seven and half years of serving children. Our program is now housed at 123 Newnan St. in Carrollton. This new location has allowed up to expand our staff, conduct initial and on going volunteer training and to present a professional appearance to the community.
Carroll County CASA, Inc. is funded by generosity of community members, civic clubs, Carroll County government, churches, local foundations and the funds from the state legislature under the Department of Human Resources.
