Bonnie Walker – Chair – Bonnie is the mother of 3 adult children and grandmother of 8. She has spent 32 years as a member of several Parent Teacher or Parent Student Associations many times as an officer. Her work history included being a Pediatric Registered Nurse, developing an Infant Care Program for Kittredge Learning Center in Atlanta and most recently in Home Health as Supervisor for the Community Care Service Progarm covering 5 counties. Currently she is a Panel Review Member and Captain of an ALTA tennis team. She and her husband were Foster Parents and involved with the State and National Foster Parent Associations. Her husband, Geri, is the President of Baking Technology Systems that sells, manufactures and installs bakery equipment nationally and internationally.

Bruce Bobick – Vice Chair was a professor of art and chairman of the Department of Art at the State University of West Georgia from 1976 until 2005. He earned an MFA in painting and drawing from the University of Notre Dame, and has exhibited his work in many national and international exhibitions.

Pam Satterfield
– Pam is married to Phillip Satterfield and has a son Graham Satterfield. She is a Carrollton high graduate and a Mercer University (Macon, GA) graduate. She owns Insurance Associates of Carrollton.

  Susan Martin  

Dea Hanson Baxter is an Associate Professor in the Division of Nutrition at Georgia State University. She has been a faculty member at Georgia State since 1975. Prior to her association with Georgia State, she was both a clinical and outpatient dietitian in Atlanta area hospitals. Dr. Baxter received a Bachelor’s Degree in Institution Management-Dietetics, a Master’s Degree in Human Nutrition, and a PhD in Curriculum Development and Instructional Processes. She completed a Dietetic Internship for registration eligibility. She is both a Registered and Licensed Dietitian. Dr. Baxter also holds a graduate certificate in Gerontology.
Currently, Dr. Baxter directs the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) at Georgia State University.  She teaches courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs.  Her particular areas of emphasis in the classroom setting are life cycle nutrition and clinical applications of nutrition.
Dr. Baxter’s research is in the area of gerontology.  She conducts research projects with the Atlanta Regional Commission, Division of Aging Services on nutrition assessment of participants in the Title III Nutrition Program for the Elderly.  This project involves both homebound and active older adults.
Service interests of Dr. Baxter are also in the area of nutrition and the life cycle.  She lectures to both lay and professional groups on prenatal, infant, child, adolescent, and geriatric nutrition.  She is also a volunteer with the Atlanta Area Chapter, Alzheimer’s Association, and she is the author of a training module on nutrition needs of persons with Alzheimer’s Disease.  She conducts training for the Alzheimer’s Association on a quarterly basis.
In the community, Dea Baxter is a member of the Abraham Baldwin Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution; Carroll County Historical Society; Board of Directors Carroll County CASA; Temple United Methodist Church and Temple Middle School Council.

Sue Medeiros - Sue Carlton Medeiros has lived in Carrollton since 1975. She retired from Carrollton High School after a 45 year teaching career.  Her main interests still involve children.  She is on the board at CASA, Alice's House, LIFT and the Neva Lomason Public Library.  Another
special interest is Community Outreach.

Patsy Upchurch – Patsy is married to Tom Upchurch and her Children are John Upchurch and Lisa Upchurch Moore. Patsy’s Grandchildren are Matt Upchurch, Luke Upchurch, and Jake Moore. Education: B.S. Berry College and a M.Ed University of West Georgia. Patsy is a Retired Educator of 30 years. She worked as a teacher at Eastside Elementary in Calhoun, Georgia and at Carrollton Elementary in Carrollton Georgia. She is involved with the Bowdon Sertoma Club, the Bowdon Historical Society, Bowdon First Methodist Church and CASA. She also served on the Georgia Student Finance Committee from 1995-2004.

Steve Minor is a partner in the law firm of TisingerVance, P.C., in Carrollton, Georgia. Steve received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University and his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law, where he served as the Managing Editor of the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law and was a member of the Order of the Coif. Steve has served as an Adjunct Professor of Business Law at the State University of West Georgia, as the President of the Georgia Electric Membership Corporation Counsel Association and the Carrollton Lion’s Club. His law practice primarily involves the representation of electric membership corporations, hospitals and other health-care providers. Steve and his wife, Catherine, have three children. As a 1995 graduate of the University of West Georgia, Lorelei Odom Shipp's hobby is community involvement.

Lorelei Shipp currently serves on the UWG NAA Board of Directors as Vice-President, is a 12 for Life Mentor and enjoys time with the Southeastern Greyhound Club. She is also a Life Loyal Member of Delta Delta Delta. Her B.B.A. in Management landed her a position with Southwire Company, and she is currently the Process Improvement Manager for the Electrical Division. Lorelei has completed courses in the Richard's College of Business MBA program.
She was a member and officer of the Carrollton Junior Chamber of Commerce holding positions such as Treasurer and Empty Stocking Fund Chair. Representing Carrollton, she won the State Speak-Up Challenge.
In 1997, Shipp graduated with other community partners from the Carroll County Leadership Academy.
With her husband, Ms. Shipp directed the National League of Junior Cotillions - West Georgia Chapter for several years. They taught manners, etiquette and ballroom dance to hundreds of local students. The couple thought that it was important to show that manners can be fun and easy.
CASA is important to Lorelei, because she knows that children and young people truly do hold the future of our community...even though they do not know it, yet.

Dr. Gordon is a native of Carrollton, having graduated from Carrollton High School in 1981. He finished his undergraduate degree in 1985 from LaGrange College, where he majored in Biology/Chemistry and graduated magna cum laude. In 1989, he received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Georgia, and completed a three year residency in Family Medicine at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia. While at Rome, Dr. Gordon was Chief Resident and the Resident of the Year. Dr. Gordon was certified by the American Board of Family Medicine in 1992, and has maintained his status by being recertified in 1998 and 2004. He is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. He has been on the active staff of Tanner Medical Center since 1992, and has served on numerous committees and has been the Chief of Medicine, Vice Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff. He has been the medical director of Tanner Hospice Care since 1997. Dr. Gordon volunteers for the community by performing middle/high school sports physicals as well as special Olympic physicals. He enjoys seeing patients of all ages, emphasizing preventative medicine, and Hospice care for the terminally ill.
Dr. Gordon and his wife Catherine have been married since 1987, and have 3 children who are all active in the community.

Linda Powers Born in Whitesburg, GA, graduated from Central High School – Linda received her undergraduate degree in English (7-12 grades) in 1971 and her Masters in English—1980. She taught at Heard County High/16 years at Bowdon High School/ 3 years at Ringgold High School/ Mt. Zion High School 10 years/ 3 years at Open Campus Night School. Linda is married to Donald Powers and has two children--Michelle Green--Nick Powers. Her grandchildren are Ashley Green, Jessica Green, Dylon Merrell and Derrick Powers. Her hobbies include reading, vacationing at the beach, family get togethers, being a CASA volunteer, scrap booking, collecting old family photographs and stories, working on family trees
Debbie Covington is a native of Carrollton and a retired educator. She served as a teacher in Carrollton City Schools and an assistant principal in several Carroll County Schools for a total of 30 years. She is married to Bill Covington a local attorney and has 2 children, 2 step-children, and 2 grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoys watercolor painting and reading.




Madeline Francis - I am a 55 year young mother of 6 and grandmother of 13. I was raised in Washington State, and now after 25 years in Georgia, I consider my self southern by proxy. I am currently a college student trying to get my major in criminal justice. My final goal is to work with troubled youth and try to make improvements in the next generation’s outlook through positive input.

Cindy Barge has been a CASA for the past several years. Previously to becoming a CASA, Cindy and her husband, Anthony, were foster parents in Carroll County for six years and had over one hundred and fifty children come through their home. Their foster home was closed due to the adoption of their sixth child and Cindy wanted to remain involved with children in Carroll County. Cindy is employed as the Administrator for West Georgia Internal Medicine and Anthony is employed by the Carrollton City School System. They have seven children that are very active in all sports.

Cris París-Hurwitz, originally from Colombia, South America, (note for the editor: Colombia, not columbia). I have lived in Carroll County since 1977. Married to Neil, have three children, Philip, Karen and Sandy, and five grandchildren. I worked for many years as interpreter/translator and Spanish teacher. Now I am teaching Spanish to senior adults is Douglasville. Several years ago I was a volunteer at the Carroll County Emergency Shelter. Always worried about the abused and neglected children and the ones “lost in the system”, I found in CASA the perfect avenue to try to make a difference in their lives.

Mary Collins – Mary was born in Columbus, MS and graduated from MS State Univ. She moved to GA in 1990. Mary was a Media Specialist and taught English in Jr. High and High School. She is married to Lowery Collins and blessed to be a mother to five children adopted through domestic and international adoptions. Mary worked with adoption groups in MS and GA and she is active at Christ Fellowship Church. Mary has been a CASA since 2003.

Helon Shoemake – Helon is the mother of 3 and Grandmother of 9. She is a Registered Nurse and Semi-retired from State Office of Regulatory Services. Her passions include her grandchildren and their interests, children in need, church and missions, and home décor.

Alice Edison – Alice is the Minister of Children at Old Camp United Methodist Church in Carrollton, Ga. She is married to Dan Edison and has two children, Phil Edison and Kimberly Minick. Phil is married to Patty Jones Edison and they have two boys, Zach and Jake. Kimberly is married to Ken Minick and they have two children, Joshua Muse and Elizabeth Minick.
